7 Best Bikes For Women Cyclists of 2024

From USNews.com

Finding a bike is challenging no matter your gender or sex. There’s a lot to consider when it comes to fit, saddle, frame geometry, components, and more. Julie Gabay, owner of Pacific Cycling & Triathlon in Stamford, Connecticut tells U.S. News 360 Reviews that “most brands have shifted away from women’s specific bikes, focusing instead on creating unisex models that accommodate a wider range of riders and promote inclusivity. Manufacturers are prioritizing bike fit over gender-specific designs.”

Ideally, the right bike will fit well from the start, but don’t be afraid to modify your bike with handlebars or a seat that better suits your anatomy. As a female cyclist and triathlete, I have plenty of experience looking for the perfect fit, but for this article, I’ve also consulted competitive and recreational cyclists, as well as accomplished cycling coaches, to help determine exactly what women should look for in a bike.

People on Bikes Can Come Together As Advocates — No Matter Why They Ride

From USA.Streetsblog.org

Can sports cyclists and utility riders become a powerful coalition to make our streets better? This author argues they must.

This week, we’re bringing you an interview with former Bicycling Magazine editor and cycling journalism veteran Peter Flax, to talk about Flax’s new book, Live to Ride: Finding Joy and Meaning on a Bicycle.” Flax and guest host Gersh Kuntzman, of Streetsblog NYC fame, dig into the reasons why so many of us love to spend time on two wheels, and why people on bikes from all backgrounds come together around the simple joy of pedaling — as well as how they might come together as advocates to build coalitions that win real policy change.

Peter Flax: I’m excited to be here because I have been a longtime fan of Streetsblog. I just feel like your outlet is a really important voice in bike culture.

Gersh Kuntzman: Let the record show that I did not tell him to say and that he’s not compelled to say that, but I appreciate it. So let’s just start with the big thesis of the book, which is basically that all of us riders have more in common than we might realize when it comes to addressing bicycling’s place in society. It’s hard for me to get my head around that because I don’t even really think about other cyclists when I’m on the road; I’m thinking about car drivers, and they’re the worst. So explain to me what your what you mean.

Want to Save Americans Money at the Pump? Invest in Bikes

From PeopleForBikes.org

By: Noa Banayan, PeopleForBikes’ director of federal affairs

The Biden administration and Congress could quickly lower transportation costs for Americans by investing in bike infrastructure and e-bike purchase subsidies, as well as fight inflation by relieving Section 301 tariffs on bicycle imports.

One of the few bipartisan agreements in Congress right now is that a gas tax holiday is a false, shortsighted solution to saving Americans money at the pump. Despite this one area of agreement since President Biden first called for a gas tax holiday in June, his administration is still asking Congress to deliver.

Congress can heed President Biden’s call to save Americans’ real money at the pump by focusing on bikes, not a temporary suspension of a tax on gas. By investing in solutions that make it safe and efficient for all Americans to choose transportation options other than driving, like biking, walking and public transit, we can ensure an affordable and sustainable mobility future.

We need long-term solutions to the energy and inflation crises that we can begin implementing today. If we want stability in our transportation system and energy portfolio, we need to look beyond Band-Aid solutions. We know bikes will never eclipse cars in use, but the United States can’t afford to wait a decade or more for a fully electrified road fleet.
