Santa Monica MANGo extension
A couple of readers have reported that Santa Monica’s new extension of its Michigan Avenue Neighborhood Greenway, “MANGo,” is now open.
The 1/8-mile-long facility includes two short stretches of bike/walk path and a block of two-way protected bike lanes. These connect the neighborhood greenway across the 10 Freeway to within easy bike/walk distance of Crossroads schools and the Metro E Line 26th Street/Bergamot Station.

Reseda Boulevard in Tarzana
A steep hillside stretch of Reseda Boulevard appears poised to receive the first stretch of new bike lanes triggered by Measure HLA. The Bureau of Street Services (StreetsLA) resurfacing project there was done when Streetsblog visited the site a week ago, but the new bike lanes were still pending.

In Europe, governments have made significant investments in developing efficient and affordable cargo bikes that are environmentally friendly, thereby decreasing regional carbon emissions. Several measures, such as a tax break on cargo bike purchases, have been implemented in the region to increase consumer demand and promote the growth of the cargo bike market.
Although North America is a bit behind in focusing on promoting the growth of this market, things are happening, especially at the city level where more and more bucket bikes, long tails and other cargo bicycles can be seen on the streets as delivery vehicles as well as legitimate second vehicles for families.

The City Council today called for a report on the resources needed to maintain protected bicycle lanes, prompted by the recent addition of 2.1 miles of such infrastructure along Hollywood Boulevard.
In a unanimous vote, council members instructed the Department of Transportation and the city administrative officer to report on the equipment and staffing levels needed per mile to sweep protected bike lanes every other week, as well as an overview of the city’s existing upkeep procedures. The review will also detail best practices to maintain these bike lanes.

Getting the right tyre pressure is quite a tedious task, but an important one if you want to enjoy your rides! However, many of us take it for granted thinking that it doesn’t do much help. Ollie, on the other hand, is here to tell you that you should think about tyre pressure more carefully with some science to back it up!
Plan Description
Caltrans District 7 is planning to identify and evaluate short-term, medium-term, and long-term potential projects and potential funding sources that could be implemented to improve safety and reduce the rate and severity of collisions within the portion of Pacific Coast Highway (PCH) in the City of Malibu – also known as State Route 1 (SR-1) in the State of California’s highway numbering system. PCH serves as a critical transportation artery in the City of Malibu as it contains, or provides access to, most of the City’s commercial, residential, and recreational areas.
In recent years, PCH in Malibu has seen numerous fatal collisions and severe injuries. The focus of this Feasibility Study is to identify transportation improvements that will address safety for all users with an emphasis on supporting multimodal travel options for pedestrians and bicyclists, as well as enhancing transit opportunities, for the portion of PCH in Malibu.
Overview and Objectives
- Identification of safety priority areas, based on collision data.
- Building upon implemented short-term, and planned mid-term improvements, identification and evaluation of long-term measures to improve safety for and interactions amongst vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians while preserving Malibu as residential community and tourist destination.
- Identification of opportunities to incorporate features supporting safe travel options for all travel modes.
