The first road stage of the Vuelta offered up some striking tech snippets

The Vuelta a España often plays third fiddle in the Grand Tour hierarchy. When you take into account the Classics too, it may seem that there is very little new tech to be spotted here, but that doesn’t mean there is none. The route is often punishingly hilly, and when wandering the pits I found out that Ineos have a fleet of bikes that they send to a Formula 1 paint company in the UK for stripping and repainting to make them even lighter, just for use in the hilly stages.

The heat, too, is always an issue, though there were far fewer cooling hacks on show here than there were for the opening time trial where the mercury shot above 40 degrees. My stage one tech gallery is worth perusing too if you want a full immersion into tech nerdery.

Take SAFE’s CA Driving Laws Survey

Guide our Legislative Efforts with SAFE’s California Driving Laws Survey

SAFE is conducting a research project focusing on California drivers’ knowledge of driving laws, some of which have existed for a long time and some of which are newer laws.

The goal of this project is to have data on what laws drivers retain from when they initially took their driving test and what laws they are aware of that have been recently established.

Once the survey is completed with sufficient responses, it will be used to propose legislation about how CA DMV should provide continuing education for new and existing driving laws.

CalBike is a co-sponsor of the Complete Streets Bill of 2024, SB 960, authored by Senator Scott Wiener. The bill requires Caltrans to set objective goals and “to prioritize the implementation of comfortable, convenient, and connected facilities for pedestrians, bicyclists, and transit users on all projects in the [SHOPP funding] program, where applicable.”

Complete Streets are streets that are safe and comfortable for people biking, walking, and taking transit, as well as driving motor vehicles. Protected bikeways, a key element of many Complete Streets, have been shown to reduce fatalities and injuries for road users in all modes of transportation.

People who get around by biking, walking, or taking transit have the same right to safe passage on our streets as people driving cars. True Complete Streets provide that equitable use of our public space regardless of transit mode, economic status, or race.

In the years leading up to the 2024 Olympics, Paris wasted no time making the city more people-friendly. It added more than 600 miles of bike lanes, planted 65,000 trees, created hundreds of pedestrian plazas, invested in light rail and returned streets to the people. The same year the International Olympic Committee chose Paris to host the 2024 games, it also chose Los Angeles to hostthe 2028 games. Even with four years remaining, as Dwell points out, it doesn’t look like LA is going to see similar sweeping changes.

Tour de France Femmes 2024: Route, start list, how to watch and all you need to know

The 2024 Tour de France Femmes takes place 12th August to 18th August 2024 with four stages in the Netherlands and a finish on Alpe d’Huez

The Tour de France Femmes, returns on the 12th August 2024. The third edition comes after a successful launch of the new race in 2022.

In 2024, the race will begin abroad in The Netherlands. The parcours will see the riders travel down France via Belgium to the Alps where the race will conclude atop the iconic Alpe d’Huez.

The race begins later than normal this year due to the scheduling of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, taking place from 12th August 2024 to 18th August 2024.

The reigning champion is Dutchwoman Demi Vollering of SD Worx-Protime. Vollering will start as the favourite following a barnstorming Vuelta Femenina performance in May. This is also likely to be her last Grand Tour in SD Worx colours after rumours have circulated surrounding her future at the team. Other favourites will include the recent Giro d’Italia Women winner Elisa Longo Borghiniof Lidl-Trek, last year’s polka dot jersey Kasia Niewiadoma of Canyon-SRAM and French hope Juliette Labous of DSM-Firmenich-PostNL.

At the 2024 Tour de France Femmes, four jerseys will be up for grabs. The yellow jersey will be the main prize for the GC, just like at the men’s Tour de France, and the green jersey and polka-dot jerseys are also the same as in the men’s Tour. However the white jersey for the best young rider is only open to riders under the age of 23 – unlike the men’s, which is under 25.
