To help you find the best front and rear bike lights, I spoke with bike shop owners and mechanics for tips on what to consider when choosing a great bike light. I also put 14 popular bike light models to the test. Over the course of several months, I rode hundreds of miles with these lights, mostly through dark, bumpy and pothole-filled streets in New York City but also around suburban and rural roads in Wisconsin.

The Port of L.A.’s Front Street Beautification Project walk/bike path is open for use. The $10 million Front Street project is one of many improvementstransforming former industrial waterfront spaces to be more accessible and welcoming to the public.
Front Street project construction kicked off in March 2023, and is now complete. Though construction is currently underway on Front Street itself as part of a $130 million Caltrans project reconfiguring several San Pedro streets and ramps at the west end of the Vincent Thomas Bridge. That current bridge-approach project is separate from Caltrans’ upcoming bridge deck replacement project.
The Front Street project features a new landscaped Gateway Plaza area at the intersection of Front and Pacific Avenue.

One of the best ways to pass better laws around active transportation is to elect bike champions. Elected leaders who understand the value of safe streets for people biking, walking, and taking transit are critical allies in our work to bring better biking to all Californians. So, each election cycle, CalBike endorses candidates who we hope will become the next generation of bike-friendly leaders in Sacramento.
We only endorse candidates in tough races or running for open seats. If we don’t have an endorsement for your assemblymember or state senator, that doesn’t mean they aren’t a bike champion; it may just mean that theirs is a safe seat. We generally endorse only candidates for state seats, but we occasionally endorse someone running for a local seat, as is the case with one of our endorsements this year.
