If you’re familiar with the BMC Kaius gravel bike, you’ve heard the phrase, “the ultimate gravel race bike.” Well, BMC is back with a new Kaius, and it one-ups the previous generation on almost every level. So if the original Kaius really was the ultimate gravel race bike, the new Kaius certainly seems to have a chance at taking the title.

Along those lines, if you were following along with the original Kaius 01, you’re also probably aware that there was a recall for all bikes and framesets. After chatting with the BMC team about this, it shouldn’t scare you off. Instead, it should provide confidence in BMC’s Swiss perfection. That entire recall centered around just 9 forks, 7 of which were early models on BMC team bikes – and at least one of those failed while riding down a set of stairs. The recall was done out of an abundance of caution. There haven’t been any issues after the fact, and our conversation left me with full confidence to trust my life to a gravel bike I’ve never ridden on an extremely fast, bumpy descent in Fort Ord.

With that out of the way, let’s dive into the new Kaius 01.
