The East San José Bikeshare Expansion will connect the Mayfair and Alum Rock neighborhoods to downtown San José and the Berryessa BART Station. This project will make it easier for residents to get around by bike whether it’s for work, school, errands, or fun.

The project will roll out in three phases:

As part of this project, we’re adding:

  • 30 new bikeshare stations
  • 725 new electric bikes, or e-bikes
  • 2,000 free “Bikeshare for All” memberships with $15 in ride credits for people who qualify

This project also includes:

  • Free bikeshare classes to help residents learn how to use the bikes, ride safely, and find the best routes
  • Better signs (wayfinding) to help people easily navigate the bikeshare system in East San José

This expansion is part of the City’s work to make neighborhoods safer, easier to bike in, and better connected.

The East San José Bikeshare Expansion supports many of the City of San José’s long-term goals for a safer, healthier, and more connected city. Keep reading to learn how this project helps move City goals forward.
