October 5th Social Hour and Bike Ride – Walk Bike Glendale

We invite you to our first Safety Spotlight Tour.   In honor of Clean Air Day, we want to take you on a ride to showcase a few cool improvements that were installed this year that make our streets safer.

But first, join us for a social coffee hour at 9 a.m. at Adams Square Mini Park across the street from Kafn, a cool and hip coffee shop with fantastic drinks!  Dont forget your reusable mug. During social hour,  we will be giving away FREE bike lights, and reflective straps and stickers (while supplies last) to help you navigate the streets of Glendale safer.

At 10 am, we will roll out for what will be about 7 miles round trip that includes stopping at 3-4 destinations along the way and we anticipate being back at Kafn around noon.  Here is where we are headed:

1.  Adams Square Mini Park intersection improvements
2.  N. Brand Demonstration Project
3.  Pelanconi & Kellogg intersection improvements
4.  San Fernando Road new bike lane
5.  (optional TBD) Glendale Narrows Riverwalk

Free rides across the Metro system this weekend to celebrate the debut of the new A and E Lines, 3 new stations and the opening of the Regional ConnectorMetro

Our new A and E light rail lines make their debut this Friday, June 16, at noon when the Regional Connector and its three new underground stations in downtown Los Angeles open to our riders.

The opening will make riding our system more convenient and will provide you with faster light rail trips to and through downtown L.A.

As part of our celebration of this milestone project, we’re offering free rides from 3 a.m. Friday through 3 a.m. Monday on all Metro buses, trains, Metro Bike and Metro Micro. Please come out and ride as much as you like and enjoy the many destinations you can reach via Metro across L.A. County.

As many of you know, the Regional Connector is a highly anticipated project that has been under construction for much of the last decade. We know many of you have questions. Let’s go…

What will the new light rail system look like?

The Connector ties together the A, E and L Lines. As a result, those three lines will become two lines:

•The new A Line will run between Azusa and Long Beach. On maps, the A Line will retain the color blue.

•The new E Line will run between East Los Angeles and Santa Monica. On maps, the E Line will use the color gold.

•It will be easy to transfer between the A and E Lines at any of the five DTLA stations they’ll share: Pico, 7th/Metro, Grand Av Arts/Bunker Hill (at 2nd and Hope), Historic Broadway (at 2nd and Broadway) and Little Tokyo/Arts District (at 1st and Alameda). Just step off one train and get on the next. No need to walk to a different platform.

How frequent will trains run?

Here’s the new A Line schedule and here’s the new E Line schedule.

The basics: trains on both lines will run every 10 minutes at weekday peak hours, every 12 minutes the rest of the day and during weekend daytime hours and every 20 minutes in early mornings and later in the evenings.

Rock the Boulevard Survey

Since our last community meeting in December of 2021, the team has been refining the project elements, and specifically the design for the bicycle facility.

We used your feedback, as well as that of the Working Group, LADOT, the Fire Department, and LA Sanitation to ensure that the design alternatives we present today provide health and safety improvements, meet the requirements of the grant, and the community’s vision.

In this short survey you will be asked to rank your preference for the type of bicycle facility you would like to see along Eagle Rock Boulevard.
This survey will close on March 10, 2023. For additional questions or feedback, please contact the StreetsLA External Relations Team at streetsla.ert@lacity.org.

Are Big Disc Brakes REALLY Better?

We know that bigger brakes can stop you faster, but what about their efficiency? We went to Girona to find out whether a bigger disc brake rotor will not only have a lower peak temperature, but also dissipate heat faster than a smaller disc brake rotor. It’s time for some GCN Science!
