Griffith Park—The next round of safety upgrades in Griffith Park could eventually give walkers, cyclists and horseback riders more dedicated space along the park’s roads. That would include banning motor vehicles completely from one side of a major park roadway.
The recommendations come from the same consultants who suggested three other changes already completed or approved for the city’s largest park.
The engineering consultants Kimley-Horn issued a 2023 report outlining six phases to make the park’s roadways safer for bikes and pedestrians. This project followed an April 2022 collision that killed 77-year-old Andrew Jelmert as he was biking along Crystal Springs Drive.
