Welcome to the Streets For All July Newsletter! We’re hard at work with exciting initiatives and upcoming projects. This past month, we saw the California Transportation Commission unanimously approve SCAG’s funding for the Ballona Creek bike path extension, the Mayor signed the HLA implementation ordinance into law, and tabled at Culver City Pride! 🏳️🌈 🏳️⚧️
Here’s what else we’ve been up to:
Ballona Creek gets final approval!
At their June meeting, the California Transportation Commission unanimously approved SCAG’s funding for the Ballona Creek bike path extension! This means that a total of $7M has been approved (between SCAG, the City of LA, and the City of Culver City) to move the project forward. We began this work in late 2022, and we turned our feasibility study over to the City of Los Angeles in late 2023, and then worked with them on a grant application. To our knowledge, this is the first time, purely as a result of an advocacy effort, a $7M project is moving forward! A special thank you to Councilwoman Heather Hutt for supporting this project financially and politically. Now the City of Los Angeles, with Culver City, will do the necessary technical and environmental clearance work to get the project shovel ready, at which point the only thing standing in the way will be finding money to construct it. Stay tuned, and follow progress at finishthecreek.com.
