Hit and Run

I recently was contacted by a cyclist who was having touble getting the police to take his hit and run report. He was shocked and appalled by the police’s lack of interest in his plight. He had been hit while riding his bike then threatened  by the driver with a weapon if he took pictures of his license plate.

Seems like something the police would be interested in, but they weren’t. I wish I could say this was an isolated case, but with the police being so overworked these hit and runs are often going un-investigated. Even worse, in the case of a current client, they even knew who hit her and still won’t press charges or prosecute.

Cycling Accident

So if you ever involved in hit and run here is my advise:

  1. Call the police, hopefully they will be able to find and prosecute the offender and take your accident report.
  2. Get medical attention.
  3. Notify YOUR insurance company within 24 hours. This is very important! If you have Uninsured Motorist insurance your policy will probably cover your injuries and bike, but you must notify them within 24 hours.
  4. Contact our office and we will be sure that all the other details are handled and you.
  5. Be sure to download or free app before you have an accident so that you can be sure to get all the details you need while at the scene of an accident.
